What is Creatinine measurement test?

Creatinine is a waste product that usually generates because of the muscle workout or breakdown of muscle tissues. The body produces Creatinine at a constant rate every second while the kidneys are involved in the removal of the waste part of Creatinine through the urine.

By checking for the levels of Creatinine in the blood or urine, your doctor may get an idea about the health of the kidneys or how well they are eliminating the Creatinine from the blood. The abnormal levels of Creatinine can also tell you about the different stages of kidney disease because through this, the glomerular filtration rate is calculated. Low GFR means the kidney function is low and you need ayurvedic medicine for Creatinine.

There are two ways to know the amount of Creatinine in the body, either through blood or urine test. But glomerular filtration rate which is another measurement of kidney function is calculated with the help of blood test, Creatinine results, gender, age, etc.

Why you may need to check for Creatinine levels?

A health care provider when suspects you have a problem with the kidneys and the muscle breakdown, suggests the Creatinine measurement test. The signs that may tell your kidney function is not accurate are as follow:
  • Tired body
  • Swelling in the body, around the face, eyes, and the lower body
  • Poor appetite level
  • Dry or patchy skin
  • Frequent urination
  • Muscle cramps
  • Blood in the urine
  • Smelly urine
  • Foaminess in the urine
  • Painful urination
  • Pain in the abdominal area
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Inability to walk
Sometimes Creatinine test is also done as a repetitive test to know the progression of ongoing chronic kidney disease. Based on the stage of kidney disease and the kidney function, you may also take ayurvedic medicine for Creatinine for a faster recovery.

What other tests are needed along with the Creatinine test?

Your healthcare provider may also order you to have a protein-to-creatinine ratio test with the help of a urine sample. The idea of the protein-to-creatinine ratio is to know the protein called albumin in response to the Creatinine in the urine. Too much albumin in the urine is another indicative sign of some underlying kidney disease. UACR, which is urine albumin to creatinine ratio less than 30, is considered normal.
Along with these tests, the health care provider may also conduct a blood test to know your kidney function. Since the kidneys are involved in the filtration of the blood and the removal of waste through the urine, both urine and blood samples can largely tell about the kidney function.
The other kidney function tests include a Creatinine blood test and a blood urea nitrogen or BUN test. The Creatinine clearance test is used to know GFR and how the Creatinine is clearing in a time span.

What does the test result mean?

Each lab may show you different test results and many other things can affect your lab results. Even if your test results are different than the normal range, it is not compulsory that you have a problem. Ask your doctor or healthcare provider for the same.
Creatinine is also dependent on the muscle mass you have. The more muscle mass you have, the more Creatinine body will produce. This is why a healthy man has a higher Creatinine range than a woman does. Children have lower muscle mass than men and women. The standard measurement unit for Creatinine is milligrams per deciliter and the normal ranges are as follow:
  • 0.9 to 1.3 mg/dL for adult males0.6 to 1.1 mg/dL for adult females
  • 0.5 to 1.0 mg/dL for children ages 3 to 18 years
  • 0.3 to 0.7 mg/dL for children under age 3
Alleviated levels of Creatinine, may tell you a lot about the undergoing health conditions, and these may include:
  • Kidney disease
  • Blockage in your urinary tract
  • Muscle disease
  • Heart failure
  • Diabetes
  • Dehydration
  • Overactive thyroid gland
  • Shock
If your creatinine is low, it may mean you have:
  • Muscle loss
  • Any liver disease
  • Not enough protein in your meals
So, if your Creatinine level is high, you need to take ayurvedic medicine for Creatinine and if it is low, you need to consult your doctor for the same.
If you want, you can also consult Karma Ayurveda.
